The purpose of the Venturing program is to provide positive experiences to help youth mature and to prepare them to become responsible adults. The Venturing Program was established on February 9, 1998 by merging the existing BSA Sea Scout program with the new Venturing Program. The new Venturing program was modeled after the Boy Scout's previous "Exploring Program" that was offered in the late 1940's through the early 1960's and the Boy Scout's Senior Scouting program of the 1930's. The Venturing Oath: As a Venturer, I promise to do my duty to God and help strengthen America, to help others, and to seek truth, fairness, and adventure in our world. The Venturing Code: As a Venturer, I believe that America's strength lies in our trust in God and in the courage, strength, and traditions of our people. I will, therefore, be faithful in my religious duties and will maintain a personal sense of honor in my own life. I will treasure my American heritage and will do all I can to preserve and enrich it. I will recognize the dignity and worth of all humanity and will use fair play and goodwill in my daily life. I will acquire the Venturing attitude that seeks truth in all things and adventure on the frontiers of our changing wold. Venturing CrewsGroups of Venturers in the same unit are known as Venturing Crews. Crews consist of at least 5 primary youth members, a minimum of 2 registered adult advisors, and a Chartering Organization. Primary youth members are individuals that are not already registered "primarily" with another Boy Scout Troop, or Venturing Crew elsewhere. The primary members in most crews in the NE Iowa Council are those individuals that have "aged out" of a Boy Scouting once reaching the age of 18 OR are female members that have no other previous affiliation with the BSA or possibly have been involved in Girl Scouting. In the Northeast Iowa Council there are a number of Venturing Crews that you may be interested in joining. If we do not currently offer a crew that doesn't quite meet you or your organizations program capabilities, you may want to consider starting a new Venturing Crew. CostThere are some minimal costs associated with membership. All registered youth are required to pay their $15 annual registration to their primary unit. Venturing Crews may also have additional membership dues required of its members to pay. Typically these are not more than $5 - $20 a year, if any. Activities, and Crew Uniforms may be an additional cost that are decided by the crew. Crews are encouraged to participate in fundraising to help raise money for activities and equipment provided they follow the Guidelines for Fundraising as set by the National BSA Council. |
