The Venturing Program PDF Print E-mail

The Venturing program was developed with a focus on providing opportunities for youth (ages 13*-20) to provide positive experiences to help them mature and to prepare them to become responsible adults. To do this, Venturing was developed around a specific set of goals or methods.

* see age requirements

The Methods of Venturing are:

  • Leadership All Venturers are given opportunities to learn and apply skills. A Venturing Crew is led by elected crew officers. The Venturing Leadership Skills Course is designed for all Venturers and helps teach them to lead effectively. For more information on the Venturing Leadership structure and training opportunities, click on the "Organizational Structure" or the "Training Programs" link in the left menu.
  • Group Activities Venturing activities are group experiences in which success is dependent on the cooperation of all. "Learning by doing."
  • Adult Association The youth officers lead the crew. The officers and activity chairs work closely with adult Advisors and adult leaders as partners. The adults serve as a "guide" roll in assisting the Crew Officers.
  • Recognition Recognition comes through the Venturing advancement program and by acknowledgement of a youth's skills by fellow crew members and adult leaders. For more information on Venturing Awards, click on the "Venturing Awards" link in the left menu.
  • The Ideals All Venturers are expected to know and live by the Venturing Oath and Code. They promise to "do their duty to god, help strengthen America, to help others, and to seek truth and fairness."
  • High Adventure and Sports Venturing's emphasis on high adventure and sports provides important team-building opportunities, meaningful experiences, leadership application, and lifelong memories.
  • Teaching Others All of the Venturing awards require Venturers to teach what they have learned. By teaching others, Venturers are better able to retain the skill and knowledge, gain confidence in their ability to speak and relate to others, and acquire skills that can benefit them for their lives as a hobby or in their professional occupations.
