Activity Planning
( 10 Articles )

The basis of Venturing is to successfully plan and carry out activities that your Crew members are interested in doing. Whether you are planning a weekend event, a day trip, or an annual high adventure trip, there is often a lot of work involved to help make the event a success, stay on budget, and accomplish the goals for the trip.
Have you ever found yourself at an activity and realized that you are unprepared simply because you forgot to bring your flashlight or a cook kit? We have added an assortment of equipment checklists that may help you on your way. The lists have been compiled from a variety of resources, with substantial input from articles found in Backpacker magazine and are shared here for your reference.
Planning for meals as well as determining the best travel arrangements for your high adventure trip can also some very daunting tasks. How do you keep costs down? Is it best to travel by personal vehicle or is public transportation a viable option?
Also, be sure to remember the following very important items when planning any Venturing event:
- Adequate current adult leader training for basic and specialized activities.
- Current BSA physical form appropriate for activity.
- Touring permits

Guidelines on how to present Venturing Awards are very difficult to locate. Many published Venturing resources do not even cover this subject and leave the planning up to the Advisors. To help you, we have developed several simple templates to use as a guide to help plan your next Venturing Court of Honor or Venturing Awards Ceremony.
Please feel free to copy the files and modify or customize the program as you need to. Hopefully these will be a valuable help to your Crew's program.
If you like the files, have any ideas on how you think we can make these templates better, easier to use, find updated resources from national, or if you have ideas you would like to share, please contact us by sending an e-mail to
